Eskom and energy and chemical organization, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively explore and research possible potential liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".

That is according to a joint statement by the two corporations, following the signing ceremony of the MoU on Friday.

"The collaboration aims to determine the potential volumes that South Africa requires to determine a feasible LNG import market, together with the enabling infrastructure, and can be facilitated by governing administration-to-federal government relations exactly where necessary."

"This initiative concentrates on utilizing fuel for electrical power generation to provide necessary base load electrical power and position gas as being a critical enabler of re-industrialisation, although also making sure continued supply to the industry by unlocking international LNG resources.
